Overview

Privacy is not just about being private; it’s about information security and personal autonomy in the information age. It is also about the relationship that you have with people and communities that you find online.

I take a lot of care with the information you provide me, and do so as transparently as transparent as possible. That said, the internet is inherently an insecure medium, and nothing transferred online can be guaranteed to be safe. With that in mind, I do my best to use a small number of well-respected services.

As much as possible in this day and age, I will keep your information secure and use it for the purposes for which you have consented. Here’s how:

Use of Website Services

I will do my best to not ask for any information that is not required to provide the services that you have opted-in to.

The information I collect may include:
  • Email address – To register your account, for communication regarding products, services, events.
  • Payment information – To process payments for goods and services
  • Address, phone number, or other information – for physical products that will be shipped
  • Content that you submit to the website – Including forum posts, questions, or recordings/content that you participate in and that are shared within the site or elsewhere. This is all part of participating in public spaces online.
Information Sharing

I do not sell your information to third parties. Some information is exchanged in the course of business with my service providers. Each has its own privacy and security situation:

  • The information you enter on physical orders will be shared with delivery services (which varies by location). Physical books will be printed by Lulu.
  • I primarily use Kajabi, which has a native payments feature as well as integrations with Stripe and Paypal, which may in turn be able to accept credit cards and other forms of payment.
  • Direct emails are handled through paid email services that do not sell, train on, or target ads with any email data. Group emails are handled through the Kajabi mailing service.

All of these services have their own standards for encryption and privacy. I do not handle secure payment information personally, which is for the best, as they are global giants with information security divisions and I have a counselling degree and 3 really good card tricks.

Content that you share as part of participating in public spaces online (such as forum posts, questions, or recordings/content that you participate in) do not have any specific security or privacy protection.

I may further share information as required by law. I can’t imagine why law enforcement would be interested in snooping on wizards, but you never know. In this unlikely case, I would only comply to the minimum extent required by law.

Accessibility

Some people are journalists, celebrities, are living in authoritarian countries, controlling relationships, and many other situations that make participating in a normal online life more fraught.

Anyone who wants to access my services but has a need for privacy or security beyond what is offered through the above technology can contact me through my encrypted Proton account [email protected]. That includes those who may need an alternate platform to access content or would rather pay another way such as e-transfer, cash, trade, or cryptocurrency.

Opting Out, Deleting Data

If you have signed up for email updates from me, you can opt out any time through the link in the email footer. Emails about updates to products, services, or groups that you own or are a part of are not marketing and are handled separately. You can change these notification settings or delete your account entirely in your account settings.

If you would like to delete all data associated with your account, please send a request to [email protected]. Note that it may take up to two weeks to confirm deletion with you and then erase your data.Â
